Why doesn't the vista (lowercase out of disrespect) taskbar stretch like XP's?

I've got a dual monitor setup, I hate 3rd party programs, I miss XP's functionality just add a monitor and you've got an oversized taskbar right there! Start on the left and a clock on the right. I've read that it's a driver issue and is not part of the OS shell. Any input would be awesome.
