Would it be okay for me to have a large 1 year anniversary party since we weren't able to have a reception?

We were married July 8th 2008, on a beach in Florida. Just him and I. We couldn't afford to have a wedding reception when we got back, so we just always umed we'd be able to have a large 1st year wedding anniversary party. Now I'm wondering whether or not this will be a faux pas. We aren't expecting gifts or anything like that. We just wanted to celebrate our marriage with everyone since no one was at our wedding in Florida. And if so, would it be appropriate to have a theme for our party? Like a masquerade ball or something?
