If there was a huge volcanic eruption, would it be more likely that the sky will be blue or red?

My science teacher told me it was blue, but why? I don't get it. Isn't it Red, since it has the longest wavelength, so it would ter all over the sky, making it look red, since the air is dense because of the volcanic eruption?
